Ingeborg lived there as a child, her sister was born there, and her parents worked there—all a long time ago. We spent our honeymoon there together 30 years ago, and it was my first introduction to the Caribbean, and Bonaire in particular.
We wanted our two children, both born in Belgium where we currently live, to be a part of our memories and the beginning of our adventure 30 years ago. This rather special year, it happened, and we left for Bonaire in early July. I didn't have many memories of it myself, but the warmth of disembarking from the plane immediately came back to me :-)
From our luxurious house with private pool, we were able to enjoy Bonaire for 3 weeks.
An occasional shower, but mostly plenty of sun, sea, and sand, with plenty of excursions, snorkeling, and delicious (ice cream) food in Kralendijk ( Karel's Beach Bar , Luciano Ice Cream Bar , and not to forget Roos Surinam Food ). What immediately caught my eye on our first "exploratory walk" in Kralendijk upon arrival on Sunday, beyond all the brightly colored houses on Bonaire, was a very recognizable blue shop right in the middle of Kralendijk's main street. It's probably quite familiar to frequent Bonaire visitors, but it surprised me: a Delft Blue shop on Bonaire! In the weeks that followed, we popped in several times and, of course, took home a few Delft Blue gifts.

In our own shop in Ophasselt, we don't do much with Delft blue tableware, but we do occasionally come across an old piece. Nothing old on Bonaire, of course, and it's all about tourism, but it's still well worth a look. Neither of us are particularly fond of Delft blue, but there were some tableware pieces with lovely designs and surprising finishes. In Delft blue, of course... :-)
