Jemappes

The Jemappes faience factories, located in Wallonia, Belgium, were mainly active in the 19th century and are best known under the name Faïencerie de Jemappes . One of the best known producers was J.B. Cappellemans Aîné , who founded a ceramics factory in Jemappes in 1847 together with Fauvel, Willems and Picard.

What made this factory special was the collaboration with the English faience producer William Smith. As a result, many of their products acquired a distinctly English style, with typical transfer prints (printed decors) and classic shapes. The factory produced plates, terrines, soup bowls and dishes with floral motifs or scenes in black and white.

Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in 1870. The Brussels entrepreneur Jacques Cassel took over and continued production until 1894.
