The Faïencerie de Gien , founded in 1821 in the town of Gien on the Loire, is one of the most prestigious and longest-established faience factories in France. Its founder, Thomas Hall , was an English entrepreneur who wanted to combine the best of English pottery tradition with French elegance. Thanks to its location on the Loire — an important trade route at the time — and its proximity to natural resources such as sand, water and wood, Gien quickly became a leading producer of fine pottery.
What makes Gien so special is the combination of craftsmanship and artistic flair. The factory not only produced tableware for everyday use, but also luxury pieces for the French aristocracy and even for the Orient Express. Their decors range from classic floral motifs to humorous scenes and religious images.
Gien is still active and today produces high-quality faience that is appreciated worldwide. Each piece is finished by hand in their workshops in France, and the factory remains true to its heritage while also developing modern collections.
