Steingutwerk Torgau (also known as Steingutfabrik Torgau) is an industrial factory in Torgau in Saxony that produces ceramic products. The factory was founded in 1925 as a production site for Villeroy & Boch and nationalized in 1948. VEB Steingutwerk Torgau produced tableware and sanitary ceramics made of earthenware and porcelain during the GDR period. VEB employed over 1,000 people and was one of the largest companies in the city. In 1990, Villeroy & Boch took over the factory from the Treuhandanstalt and has operated it as a factory ever since. Today, the factories in Torgau and Merzig in Saarland are Villeroy & Boch's two production locations in Germany for the "Dining & Lifestyle" division. Porcelain items from the "Tableware" division are produced at both locations using the ceramic injection molding process. Villeroy & Boch employs approximately 1,850 of its 6,500 employees in the "Dining & Lifestyle" division.
