Sarreguemines
The Sarreguemines tableware factory, located in northeastern France, has an impressive history dating back to 1790. What began as a small faience factory grew under the leadership of visionary entrepreneur Paul Utzschneider into one of the most influential ceramic manufacturers in Europe.
In the 19th century, Sarreguemines supplied tableware to the court of Napoleon I and even produced the famous wall tiles for the Paris metro. The factory was known for its colourful decors, such as Obernai , Agreste and Rusticana , often in blue, red or sepia. In addition to tableware, they also produced decorative plates, vases and majolica.
After the annexation of the Moselle by Germany in 1871, Sarreguemines expanded to Digoin and Vitry-le-François , where production continued. The factory remained active until the late 20th century, and its pieces are today sought after by collectors for their nostalgic charm and decorative value.
